| About vinegar |
| |
A long story.
Vinegar apart from wine and olive oil is one of the oldest
cultural assets. During the antiquity already it was common
that alcoholic liquids develop to vinegar after a longer period
of storage. Already some 4000 years ago "sour beer"
was consumed in Mesopotamia.
The Romans used figs, grapes or special cereals for the production
of vinegar. They were delighted by a sour-tasting drink called
"Posca", which was a mixture of water and vinegar
and which was consumed until our century as a refreshment
and energy donator. Nevertheless vinegar was not only used
as a thirst-quenching drink. From the history we learn that
vinegar was also used as a mean for curing, preservation,
cleaning wounds or even as a bath admixture and perfume. |
